  • Bulldogs Earn At-Large Bid To NCAA Championship
    May 21, 2019
    Yale women’s crew is headed to the NCAA Championship for the 19th time in the last 20 years. Yale received one of 11 at-large bids when the field was announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs will be one of 22 crews competing for the national championship on May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis.
  • All Five Crews Medal At Ivy League Championship

    In what has become quite commonplace, all five Yale crews earned medals at the Ivy League Championship on Sunday on the Cooper River. That helped the Bulldogs to a strong third-place finish with 64 points in the overall team point standings. Yale also was third in the NCAA Automatic bid qualifier standings with 36 points, but the Bulldogs figure to be in strong position to earn an at large bid when the field is announced on Tuesday.

    The Yale women’s crew looks to be ready for the postseason. In the final race of the regular season, Yale’s varsity eight easily retained the Case Cup by cruising to a victory over Harvard-Radcliffe on a rough morning on the Charles River in Boston. The Bulldogs also defeated Harvard and Northeastern in the varsity four, second varsity four and third varsity eight.

    On a rainy and windy morning on Lake Carnegie in New Jersey, Yale, Princeton and Texas – three top-10 nationally ranked crews – went toe-to-toe. The Bulldogs, ranked ninth, more than held their own with the No. 8 Tigers and No. 4 Longhorns, finishing second in all five races.

    Three of the nation’s top-ranked crews meet on Saturday on Lake Carnegie in New Jersey. Yale, ranked ninth, races No. 4 Texas and No. 7 Princeton. The first race is set for 8:45 a.m. The varsity eights face off in the finale at 10:55 a.m. when Yale and Princeton will be competing for the Eisenburg Cup. ESPN+ has the video.

    Yale women’s crew made the most of its only home race of the spring season. The Bulldogs rolled to commanding victories over Cornell in all four races and then celebrated 45 years of the tremendously successful program.

    Yale’s only home race of the spring is set for Saturday. And it will be a big day at Gilder Boathouse. In addition to facing Cornell, there will be a celebration of 45 years of women’s crew at Yale. The first race is set for 8 a.m., and the varsity eights will race for the Cayuga Cup at 9:30 a.m. The Yale heavyweights also will be in action, facing Dartmouth starting at 8:15 a.m.

  • Four Yale Alums Set For The Boat Race

    The Boat Race, the famous rowing contest between the crews from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, will have a distinct Yale flavor this year. The men’s and women’s races are set for Sunday on the Thames River in London. There will be three former Yale women’s rowers – Sophie Deans ‘18, Kate Horvat ‘18 and Lily Lindsay ‘18 - sitting in the Cambridge eight that faces its archrival over the grueling four-mile course. In addition, Gerard Kuenning ’14, who rowed for the heavyweights at Yale, will sit in the No. 4 seat of the Cambridge reserve men’s eight.

  • Bulldogs Finish Strong At Head Of Charles

    Yale wrapped up the fall racing season with a strong showing on the final day of the Head of the Charles in Boston. The Bulldogs had two eights entered in the championship eight and both raced well. The varsity was the fourth fastest collegiate finisher and placed sixth overall with a time of 17:24.904. The second varsity was the fastest collegiate 2v and posted a time of 18:09.616.

    Yale has been declared the winner of the club eights at the Head of the Charles. Harvard and Penn, which posted faster times on Saturday, were disqualified for rules violations.
  • Bulldogs Set For Head Of Charles

    Yale will race three crews in the annual Head of the Charles this weekend in Boston. The third varsity, with bow No. 2, is first up on Saturday in the women’s club eight at 2:33 p.m. The varsity and second varsity will wait until Sunday to compete in the women’s championship eight, which is set to start at 2:26 p.m. The varsity is bow No. 5, while the second varsity is bow No. 12.
  • Strong Start To Fall Season At Head Of Housatonic

    It was a dominant start to the fall season for the Yale women’s crew. The Bulldogs top crew easily posted the fastest time in the collegiate division at the annual Head of the Housatonic. Yale finished with a time of 14:45.5, nearly 14 seconds faster than second-place Brown. On the day, the Bulldogs had four of the top 11 fastest crews.
