Three Eights To Compete In Famous Regatta

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale will race three crews in the annual Head of the Charles this weekend in Boston. The third varsity, with bow No. 2, is first up on Saturday in the women's club eight at 2:33 p.m. The varsity and second varsity will wait until Sunday to compete in the women's championship eight, which is set to start at 2:26 p.m. The varsity is bow No. 5, while the second varsity is bow No. 12.

"The Charles is THE rowing festival of the fall. I liken it to rowing lollapalooza," said Will Porter, the Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "There is live music, shopping tents, food, corporate tents and oh yeah rowing. It is a great test for us to focus in on our rowing and our racing. We will try to block out all the noise around us and focus on racing."

Yale opened the fall season with a strong showing at the Head of Housatonic, but this weekend should provide another good learning experience for the Bulldogs.

"We are young in the 1V and will need to rise to the challenge of the event," Porter said.
