April 8, 2006

DERBY, Conn. - The Yale women's crew team won the Class of 1985 Cup Saturday morning, beating Dartmouth and Boston University. Yale won four of its five races in the regatta on the home waters of the Housatonic.

In the first race of the day, the 1st novice race, the Big Green battled with Yale throughout the two kilometer course and won by a little over a length. Dartmouth's 2nd novice boat and BU came in third and fourth respectively.

After the close first race, Yale showed consistency in the remaining four races. In the 2nd varsity, the Bulldogs put in a solid performance, beating second place BU by 15 seconds.

In the varsity eight, the Bulldogs battled with the Big Green once again, but this time got the better of the visiting crew, winning by four seconds over Dartmouth. BU finished 10 seconds back from Dartmouth in third place.

Yale rounded concluded the morning with two comfortable wins in the varsity four and varsity `B' four. The Bulldogs won both races by 10 second margins over BU.

Yale, ranked third in the country, will head south to face a top-ranked Princeton squad and Virginia, who is ranked sixth. The three crews will compete in the Eisenberg Cup, which Princeton won in 2005.
