Boston, MA - The Bulldog varsity boat pulled out a victory by the slimmest of margins Saturday morning, defeating Boston University by less than one second at the Yale Class of 1985 Cup on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.
The Elis finished with a time 6:32.94 with the Terriers close behind, posting a time of 6:33.79. Iowa and Dartmouth finished third and fourth respectively.
"We were lucky that we were able to perform below our abilities and still come away with a win," Yale Head Coach Will Porter said. "Boston University rowed an exceptional race."
Yale won four of the day's five races. In the second varsity, the Elis outperformed the second place Terriers by over 12 seconds. In the third varsity, Yale also took first with a time of 6:45.57.
"I was pleased with the strength of our squad as we look to qualify for an NCAA team bid," Porter said.
The Elis will spend next week preparing for No. 1 ranked and undefeated Princeton, who they host on April 16.
