NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The defending National Champion Bulldogs kicked off their fall season at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta, Saturday. Yale's three varsity boats placed in the top five in the Collegiate Eights. The 1V boat claimed first, with the 2V and 3V taking third and fifth respectively. The Bulldogs' 1F won the Novice Eights.
"I think we rowed well today," commented Head Coach Will Porter. "It was a beautiful day on our river and a great day to start our season."
In the Collegiate Eights, the 1V of Taylor Ritzel (stroke), Jamie Redman (seven), Tess Gerrand (six), Catherine Hart (five), Alice Henly (four), Maren McCrea (three), Caroline Nash (two), Christine Glandorf (bow) and Berkley Adrio (cox) took first place in 14:42.864. The 2V finished third in 15:37.017, while the 3V recorded a time of 16:08.565 and placed fifth. The Northeastern 1V claimed second.
In the Novice Eights, the Yale 1F outpaced second place Northeastern's 1F by more than 1:20, as the Bulldogs crossed the finish line in 16:05.048. The Northeastern and UMass 1F boats rounded out the top three.
"It is so early and we have so many more strokes to take and so many more things to sort out," Porter added. "But this was a very good way to start."
Yale next heads north to Cambridge, Mass for the Head of the Charles on Oct. 20-21.
