No. 1 Bulldogs Open Spring Season Saturday
March 27, 2008
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - 2007 was a dream season for the Yale women's crew team. The Bulldogs' varsity eight won the NCAA and Eastern Sprints championships and went undefeated in the dual race season. Five members of that gold medal winning boat will be racing for the varsity when Yale hosts Columbia and Penn for the Connell Cup on Saturday on the Houstatonic River in the 2008 opener.
"We are looking forward to racing," said Yale Head Coach Will Porter. "We have only six regular season races to get it right before the Eastern Sprints, when we want to be at top speed. Staying home for spring break is always challenging with cold weather and a flooding river. We were able to get some work done, but we still have plenty to do before we find our top end speed."
Yale was ranked first the preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll, released earlier this month.
Last year on the Schuykill River in Philadelphia, the Bulldogs captured four of five races en route to winning the Connell Cup.
In addition to the women's races, Yale's heavyweight crew will be taking on Brown on Saturday. Below is a schedule of events.
