Nov. 5, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 2008 NCAA champion Yale varsity eight women's crew was honored at halftime of the Columbia football game last Saturday. The members of the winning crew received a nice ovation from the crowd at Yale Bowl.

"Being recognized at the football game was a great moment for our program," said Yale head coach Will Porter. "The athletes really enjoyed it."

The nine members of the winning boat were all on hand, including coxswain Mia Kanak, Taylor Ritzel, Christina Person, Tess Gerrand, Jamie Redman, Alice Henly, Maren McCrea, Caroline Nash and Christine Glandorf, along with Porter and assistant coaches Kate Maloney and Jamie Snider.

The Bulldogs captured their second straight national championship last May on Lake Natoma in California. Yale finished less than one second ahead of second-place Stanford in a thrilling Grand Final. The Bulldogs were third at the 1500-meter mark, but rowed an outstanding final 500 meters to overtake Brown and then Stanford just before the finish line.
