The new captains for next season were announced and several players received awards for their efforts this past season at the Yale fencing teams' annual end of year banquet. Sophomore Cornelius Saunders will captain the men’s team while junior Robyn Shaffer was elected to lead the women’s team for another year.
With eight members of the Yale women’s fencing team competing at the Mar. 11 NCAA Regional Championship at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., freshman Lauren Miller put in a stellar effort to advance to the Mar. 22-25 NCAA National Championship.
The Yale women’s fencing team finished up the Feb. 11-12 Ivy League Championship in fifth place, after a difficult second day of competition in Coxe Cage that saw the team go 2-4 in overall competition.

Captain Robyn Shaffer provided the highlight for Yale’s first weekend of fencing in 2011-12, placing 16th in the epee competition this weekend at Penn State’s Garret Open. This was the Bulldogs’ first action since their 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championship last spring.
