Look to Go Back to Back
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a strong 15-12 victory against Sacred Heart on Jan. 28, the Yale women's fencing team will take on Vassar and Drew at Payne Whitney Gymnasium on Feb. 4.
The Bulldogs are well positioned to build momentum over the weekend, before the Feb. 11-12 Ivy League Championships, hosted this year at home at Coxe Cage. This weekend's match-up is likely to draw strong home crowd support, which will encourage all fencers to work diligently through the course of the competition.
When Yale took on the Brewers last year, they came away with a 16-11 verdict. The Bulldogs were able to claim victory in large part thanks to the stellar performance of the epee squad, which won eight of nine bouts at the meet. Junior captain Robyn Shaffer set an example, going undefeated in three bouts.
The team will face Vassar at 1:00 PM, and afterwards, will take on Drew at 3:00 PM.
The Bulldogs will have a week to train and prepare for the Ivy League Championships after the match-up against Vassar and Drew.
