Yale Fencers Head to Brandeis
Opportunity to Prepare for Spring Competition Ahead
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale women's fencing team will compete in its second competition of the 2012-13 season as it heads this week to Waltham, Mass., for the Dec. 2 Brandeis Invitational.
The competition will provide the Bulldogs an opportunity to build on a solid start to the season at the Nov. 3-4 Penn State Garret Open. In that tournament, a trio of Yale fencers—senior captain Robyn Shaffer, sophomore Lauren Miller and freshman Katherine Miller—finished in the top 16 in their respective weapons after making the direct-elimination round.
With that foundation, the team will look to improve upon last year's result at the Brandeis Invitational, where the Bulldogs finished with a 2-3 record, including victories against Brandeis and MIT.
Yale will face a different slate of teams at this year's competition, which will feature Brandeis, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, St. John's and UNC.
The Brandeis Invitational will wrap up the fall component of the Bulldogs' season. Afterwards, they will break until Jan. 19, when they host Sacred Heart at home.
