Fencers to Face Sacred Heart at Home
Seek to Repeat Last Year's Victory
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Back at home in New Haven, Conn., the Yale women's fencing team will open its spring account with a Jan. 19 match-up against Sacred Heart in Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
As they head into this match against the Pioneers, the Bulldogs will look to repeat their performance during last year's competition, when they beat Sacred Heart 15-12.
As such, the event will give the Yale team a chance to bounce back after a tough competition at the Dec. 2 Brandeis Invitational, where they finished with a 1-5 result that included a win against MIT.
The match-up against Sacred Heart will also enable the Bulldogs to hone their skills for the remainder of the season ahead. Next week the team will head to New York to compete in the Jan. 27 NYU Invitational. Then, the Bulldogs will head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a Feb. 2 bout against Vassar.
The team will to build their momentum through these matches in advance of the Feb. 9 Ivy League Championship, hosted this year by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. Fencers who perform well there will advance to the Mar. 10 NCAA Northeast Regional.
