Yale to Compete at NYU
Opportunity to Build Momentum
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale women's fencing team will head down to New York this weekend to compete at the Jan. 27 NYU Invitational.
Expected to be a difficult competition, the NYU Invitational has challenged the Bulldogs in past years. In the past two years, the Yale team has posted a 1-4 split in competition at the NYU meet; last year's result included a victory against Wayne State.
Still, the NYU Invitational will give the team an opportunity to gain valuable match practice and build momentum as the spring season progresses. Last weekend Yale fell to Sacred Heart at home in Payne Whitney Gymanasium in a 13-14 heartbreaker, a result that nonetheless included 3-0 performances by senior captain Robyn Shaffer and sophomore Lauren Miller.
The Bulldogs will hope to add to those strong performances this weekend at NYU. Up next s a Feb. 2 bout against Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and then the season will culminate in the Feb. 9 Ivy League Championship, hosted this year by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
