Fencers Take On Vassar

Last Match Before Ivy League Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Looking to rebound after a difficult weekend at the NYU Invitational, the Yale women's fencing team will take on Vassar on Feb. 2 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

When the Bulldogs hosted Vassar at Payne Whitney last year, Yale was able to come away with a 19-8 victory. As part of that result, the epee squad finished up with a 7-2 verdict while the foil and saber squads fenced diligently to close with a 3-2 record.

Yale will be hoping to recall those performances as it heads into this weekend on the heels of the NYU Invitational last weekend in New York. There the Bulldog posted a 1-4 record that included a 20-7 victory against Wayne State.

The competition at NYU was not without strong performances: senior Madeline Oliver went 10-5 in saber competition while sophomore Lauren Miller posted a 10-5 record in foil.

The Bulldogs will look to bring together those performances against Vassar this weekend—this is the team's final opportunity to tune up before the season-end Ivy League Championships, which take place at Harvard on Feb 9.
