Jan. 23, 2006
The women's fencing team tapped the Vassar Brewers on Saturday, losing only three of 27 bouts en route to a 24-3 victory. The Bulldogs also unhorsed the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers by a score of 18-9. Alisa Mendelsohn, Diana Schawlowski, and Erin Frey were all 6-0 on the afternoon.
In epee, Yale lost to Rutgers 5-4, but rebounded to take the weapon 7-2 against Vassar thanks in large part to Isadora Botwinick's 3-0 performance. Botwinick finished 4-2, Tejas Srinivas went 3-3, and Anne Nguyen ended up 4-2 between the two matches.
The Bulldogs pulled out a 5-4 win against Rutgers in the sabre, with Frey accounting for 3 of those critical victories. She came out unscathed against Vassar as well, though the score was not nearly as close at 8-1. On the afternoon, Carly Guss went 3-2 and Genevieve Tauxe was 3-3, with Umi-shakti Ausar-Sahu subbing in for a single victory.
Yale was truly unstoppable with the foil on Saturday, going an incredible 18-0 between the two matches. Mendelsohn and Schawlowski posted six wins a piece, with freshman Jennifer Cohen and sophomore Jessica Dobbins contributing four and two wins respectively.
The Bulldogs competed at the NYU Invitational on Sunday and next see action this weekend against Sacred Heart and Tufts at the Payne Whitney Gym.
