March 11, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman epeeist Rebecca Moss, the No. 5 seed at Sunday's NCAA Regionals hosted by Tufts, qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing eighth. Senior captain Alisa Mendelsohn also punched a ticket to the NCAA's to be held in Madison, N.J. on Mar. 22-25 with her fourth place finish. Junior saberist Erin Frey and freshman foilist Lidia Gocheva are wildcard finalists and, therefore, could also make the trip south in two weeks.

Mendelsohn will be making her third trip to the NCAA Championships, having also qualified in 2004 and 2005. Gocheva took 13th in the foil.

Moss continued her impressive rookie campaign by qualifying for the season's final and most important tournament. She finished 14th in the epee at the Junior Olympics on Feb. 18 and fourth at the IFA Championships a week ago. Senior epeeist Anne Nguyen ended up 18th among the Northeast's epeeists.

Yale also had three saberists in the competition. Freshmen Katherine Arden and Farrah Kimovec placed 17th and 20th respectively, while Frey came in 15th.
