Korb and Mendelsohn Compete in Fencing Nationals

Erica Korb and Alisa Mendelsohn, the two Yale fencers sent to the NCAAs at Brandeis College, had strong showings in the first day of competition, finishing 9th and 15th, respectively, after four rounds. As a team, Yale is in 13th place.
Korb, who was Yale's top fencer in the epee category all season, won nine duels, earning a .643 winning percentage and finishing ninth overall in the women's epee. Anna Garina from Wayne State leads the category with a .929 percentage.
In foil, Mendelsohn won 6 of her 14 battles to achieve a .429 percentage and 15th place out of 24 fencers. Alicja Kryczalo from Notre Dame won 13 of 14 to lead the competition.
The Elis went no one to compete in saber, but Emma Baratta from CC olumbia and Barnard scored a perfect record to sit in first place.
With their showings, Mendelsohn and Korb have the Elis standing in 13th place with 15 points. The women's finals will continue today, with the men's competition set to start on Saturday.
