Yale Fencers Wrap Up Competition at Penn State Open

STATE COLLEGE, Penn. - The Yale women's fencing team kicked off it season on Saturday at the Penn State Open. The competition was the team's first this season and was a good opportunity for Yale's freshmen to get a taste of collegiate competition before the start of the season.

In the sabre, freshman Katherine Arden took 25th. Junior Farrah Kimovec took 33rd.

For the foil, another freshman, Katherine Pitt lead the Bulldogs in 12th place. She was followed by junior Lidia Gocheva in 13th, Freshman Valeria Makeeva in 16th and freshman Samantha Atwood in 28th.

Junior Rebecca Moss was Yale's highest-placing fencer at the open. She took 9th in the epee. She was followed by senior Abigail Fraeman in 26th, sophomore Pruittiporn Kerdchoochuen in 37th and sophomore Tasha Garcia in 47th.

The Bulldogs will fence next at the Dernell Every Open, an alumni/ae tournament held at Yale, on Nov. 8.
