Yale Sweeps NYU

Nov. 29, 2005

In their first head-to-head match of the season, the women's fencing team mowed over the violets with a string of outstanding performances, including 3-0 showings by Diana Schawlowski and Carly Guss.

Yale routed NYU 8-1 in the sabre, with Sada Jacobson allowing only one point in her two victories before being replaced by Genevieve Tauxe, who also won. Guss defeated her opponents in all three of her bouts, while Erin Frey suffered the only loss.

In foil, Schawlowski paced the Elis, who dropped NYU 5-4. Alisa Mendelsohn also contributed two wins.

Tejas Srinivas and Isadora Botwinick each won twice in the epee, and Annie Nguyen won once to give the Elis the 5-4 win in that weapon as well.

Yale travels to Waltham, MA this weekend to compete in the Brandeis Invitational.
