Spring Campaign Opens in Florida

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale women's golf team will open its spring season in earnest over the spring break with a Mar. 9 scrimmage against Seton Hall.

With the scrimmage just days away, the Bulldogs have been hard at work over the winter season to position themselves strongly for the spring campaign. Led by senior captain Alexandra Lipa, who captained the team to victory at the Sept. 15-16 Dartmouth Invitational, the team will look to carry over their momentum from fall competition. Lipa will be supported by fellow senior Joy Kim

This season the Yale squad boasts unusual depth and form across the entire team. Juniors Seo Hee Moon and Sun Gyoung Park are both in strong form; Park tied for third at the Dartmouth Invitational while Moon finished in ninth place at the same tournament. Sophomores Shreya Ghei, Marika Liu and Caroline Rouse also enter the spring season with several powerful fall performances under their belt: Ghei won the individual medal at the Dartmouth Invitational, Liu finished in the sixth place at the same tournament, while Rouse made the All-Tournament team at the Lady Pirate Invitational after finishing in a tie for fourth place.

Making their debut in spring competition will be two freshmen, Michelle Fogarty and Deanna Song. They will both be looking to contribute to the team's success throughout the season.

"I think the team is very excited to hit on grass again and they are itching to play golf. If they are having fun, I know they will play well," said head coach Chawwadee Rompothong '00. "Overall, they have gotten physically stronger over the winter months and it will be excited to see how the springs goes."

The scrimmage, held at the Mountain Lake Golf Course in Mountain Lake, Fla., marks the first of three meets for the Bulldogs in Florida and Virginia over the spring break. Yale will face Lehigh on the Lost Tree Golf Course in Jupiter, Fla., on Mar. 11 and then compete at the Mar. 17-19 William & Mary Spring Invitational, held this year at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.

Back in the northeast, the Bulldogs will travel to Four Streams Golf Course in Gaithersburg, Md., to compete in the Apr. 8-9 Hoya Invitational, before heading to Providence, R.I., for the Apr. 14-15 Brown Invitational, held this year at the Rhode Island Country Club.

The Brown Invitational will offer the team its final opportunity to tune-up before the Apr. 26-28 Ivy League Championship, held this year at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J.
