Victory By 17 Strokes, Park Ties For First

BARRINGTON, R.I. — The Yale women's golf team led the field at the end of the first round Sunday and never looked back Monday as it clinched a stunning victory here at the Apr. 14-15 Brown Invitational.

The Bulldogs turned into the clubhouse Sunday with a +28 (604), a strong score on the difficult Rhode Island Country Club course here in Barrington, R.I. It certainly proved too strong for the 14-strong field, one that included Ivy League rivals Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard.

Yale claimed victory by 17 strokes over second-place Seton Hall, which finished at +45 (621). Harvard was two strokes further back at +47 (623). Yale's victory was a testament to the powerful all-round team performance.

Instrumental in the Bulldogs' victory was junior Sun Gyoung Park, who led the way in a tie for first place, closing at +3. She finished strongly with an Even round Monday to tie with two other golfers. The trio was two strokes ahead of the fourth-place finisher.

Close behind Park was sophomore Marika Liu, who shot a +7 to finish in sixth place. Sophomore Shreya Ghei and junior Seo Hee Moon both finished up at +9 to tie for seventh.

In posting victory at the Brown Invitational Monday, the Bulldogs improved substantially upon their performance last year at the same tournament, where they finished in fourth place despite shooting the second day low round. Moon was Yale's best performer at last year's tournament, finishing in fourth overall.

Next up for the Yale team is the Apr. 26-28 Ivy League Invitational, held this year at Trump National in Bedford, N.J.
