Bulldogs Head to Nittany Lion Invitational
Will Look To Continue Fine Form
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—With two tournament victories in successive weekends, the Yale women's golf team will travel this weekend to State College, Pa., to compete at the Sept. 27-29 Nittany Lion Invitational.
The Nittany Lion Invitational will pit the Bulldogs against a highly competitive 13-team field, including host and defending champion Penn State and Ancient Eight rival Columbia. Golfers will play three rounds through the par-72 6,263-yard Penn State Blue Course.
Yale will enter this year's tournament with momentum from substantial wins at the Dartmouth Invitational and Yale Intercollegiate, which the Bulldogs clinched by 23 and 19 strokes, respectively. Those results have been spearheaded by freshman Elisabeth Bernabe, who won the individual medal at both tournaments in what has been an exhilarating start to her collegiate golf career.
Every player on the Yale team has contributed to recent strong performances. Senior Seo Hee Moon tied for second at last weekend's Yale Intercollegiate, junior Marika Liu tied for seventh, and freshman Sandy Wongwaiwate finished ninth in her first tournament at home. Junior Shreya Ghei and freshman Sara Garmezy, who will also join Yale's travel squad this weekend, finished 23rd and 29th last weekend, respectively.
The Bulldogs will look to build on their result at last year's Nittany Lion Invitational, where they finished ninth. Golfers will tee off starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and the tournament will conclude with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Sunday.
