Yale Leads At Penn State

Bernabe Tied for Third

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—With momentum from two consecutive tournament victories, the Yale women's golf team finished the first day of the Sept. 27-29 Nittany Lion Invitational in outright first place.

Yale leads the tournament, which is hosted by Penn State on its Blue Course in State College, Pa. The highly competitive 13-team field includes defending champion Penn State and Ivy League rival Columbia.

On Friday, the Bulldogs shot a round of 289 to lead second-place Penn State by four strokes. Leading the way for Yale is freshman Elisabeth Bernabe, who fired 71 to sit in a tie for third place. Bernabe entered the tournament having won two tournament medals in her first two collegiate tournaments.

Senior Seo Hee Moon and freshman Sandy Wongwaiwate are one stroke further back, tied for fifth at 72. Junior Marika Liu closed Friday's round with a 74 in a tie for 15th.

Golfers will return to the course starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and the tournament will conclude with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Sunday.
