NEW HAVEN, Conn - The men's and women's golf teams took part in the Borsodi Championship, an inter-squad scrimmage at the Yale Golf Course, this past weekend. The teams used this as an opportunity to simulate tournament like competition before their first tournaments.
On the men's side, senior captain Colby Moore took first place followed by sophomore Thomas McCarthy who took second. Transfer student Michael Fader took third, after shooting a 68 in his first competitive round on the Yale Golf Course. The real story of the weekend, however, was that five players shot under 148 for the two days and as a team they shot 566. Both of these are encouraging signs according to Moore.
This is the best talent from ten guys I have seen since I have been at Yale, said Moore. It's a real boost of confidence for the team going into next weekend.
On the women's side, sophomore Alyssa Roland finished first with senior Erica Im taking second. The women, who head off to the Nittany Lion Invitational this coming weekend, are riding high according to their senior captain Natasha Spackey.
The entire team was shooting low and everyone is pumped for the season, said Spackey. The team dynamic and morale is very high and we are ready to hit the ground running.
Look for the men to compete in the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota this weekend, while the women head off to Pennsylvania for the Nittany Lion Invitational.
