Liao is the captain of the 2008-2009 Yale women's gymnastics team. As a junior, Liao once again competed in the all-around in every competition, grabbed the Ivy Classic title, and qualified to the NCAA Regionals. She won several competitions, and placed in at least one event every weekend. At the Ivy Classic, she won three individual titles in all-around (38.675), beam (9.675), and floor (9.8). At ECACs, she placed earned a 9.725 on bars, 9.7 on beam, and 9.825 on floor for 3rd place. Similarly, at Regionals, she scored a 9.5 on vault, 9.65 on bars, 9.825 on beam, 9.7 on floor, and finished 11th in the all-around with a 38.675, tying her career highs on beam and all-around. She ended the season with a 9.7 average on floor. Liao received ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors twice for her performances against Alaska-Anchorage and at the Ivy Classic. She was also honored with an Academic All-Ivy selection. In her sophomore year, Liao was the only Bulldog gymnast to compete all four events in every single meet. She qualified to NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive year, where she scored a 9.725 on floor and placed 14th in the all-around. At ECACs, she placed 2nd on floor with a career high score of 9.8. At the Ivy Classic she placed 3rd in the all-around with a 38.15, 4th on floor (9.725), and 5th on beam (9.7) and vault (9.65). Liao set several career highs for herself this season, including the 9.8 on floor at ECACs, a 9.775 on beam against URI, a 9.7 on bars against Brown, and a pair of 38.525 in the all-around against Brown and at Towson. She won the ECAC Gymnast of the Week award twice in three weeks. The first was after a home meet against SCSU, where she scored career highs in all-around and floor and season highs on the other three events. The second time was after the Ivy Classic when she helped the team to a 3rd place finish in addition to her own individual awards. Liao had an impressive rookie season, winning ECAC Rookie of the Year. Along with placing in the top five in at least one event every competition, she qualified for NCAA Regionals in the all-around. There, she placed 15th, scoring a 37.575, which included a 9.75 on beam and a 9.7 on floor. At ECACs, her 9.55 on beam placed 7th. At the Ivy Classic, she won the all-around with a 38.1, making it two consecutive years that a Bulldog had won the title. She also placed second on floor with a 9.6 and 3rd on beam with a 9.675. Throughout the season, Liao was nominated ECAC Rookie of the Week twice. The first time was for her efforts during Yale's comeback win over Penn; Liao won floor and placed 2nd in the all-around. The second honor was after a team victory over URI when Liao won beam and all-around with a 38.125. Liao joined the Bulldogs from West Valley Gymnastics. She was a four time Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier and has trained at the Elite level, competing internationally in Helsinki, Finland. She regularly placed in the top 20 at Nationals and in 2003, placed 9th in the all-around and 3rd on beam. Liao graduated as valedictorian from Saratoga High School.
