Brigitte Kivisto is the captain of the 2009-2010 Yale women's gymnastics team. Despite battling injuries throughout her junior year, Kivisto competed on various events in all but one meet. For the last three competitions, she unveiled a new vault with a 10.0 start value, scoring a career high 9.725 at Maryland. Against Bridgeport she scored a 9.775 on floor for a new career high and added a 9.725 at the Ivy Classic where she received second place. She never received below a 9.6 on the event all season. Kivisto competed all-around at the ECAC Championships, earning a 9.775 on beam. In addition, she represented Yale at the Collegiate National Championships on beam and scored a 9.125. For her consistency on beam and floor, Kivisto received the ECAC Coaches' Choice and Specialist of the Week Award. Kivisto was a key all-arounder in her sophomore year, competing all four events seven times. After tying her career high of 38.3 at URI's quad meet, she was honored as ECAC Gymnast of the Week. At the meet, she won all-around and beam (9.75). Kivisto's standout floor performance was against Penn, when she scored a 9.75. She placed 3rd at the Ivy Classic with a 37.75, which included a season high 9.575 on vault. Despite various injuries, Kivisto competed in every meet of her rookie season, including six times in the all-around. At the team's opening quad meet at URI, she scored a 9.7 on beam to earn ECAC Rookie of the Week honors, followed by the ECAC Coaches' Choice Award a mere two weeks later. Kivisto proved to be solid on all four events throughout the season, as highlighted by her performance at the Towson tri-meet where she scored above a 9.5 on all four events and finished with a career high 38.3 in the all-around. At the ECAC Championships, Kivisto received a 9.775 on beam, earning her 3rd place. Kivisto joined the Bulldogs from American Twisters. She was a three-time Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier. In 2001 she placed 2nd on beam and in the all-around and 3rd on vault and floor, and she was a member of the Junior National Olympic Team that year as well. At the Region VIII Championships, she has placed 2nd and 3rd in the all-around, as well as 2nd on vault. Kivisto graduated from Spanish River Community High School and was a member of the varsity weight-lifting team.
