NEW HAVEN, Conn. – With a regional qualifying average of 38.785, senior captain Brigitte Kivisto was awarded a spot in the all-around competition at the NCAA Regional Championships, to be held on Saturday, Apr. 10 at Penn State. The announcement caps an amazing week for Kivisto, who was named the ECAC Gymnastics Athlete of the Year on Friday night and placed second in the all-around competition at the ECAC Championships on Saturday. Kivisto, who won the Ivy Classic earlier in the season, is the only Ivy League gymnast to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
Qualification for the meet is determined by regional qualifying score, a weighted average of a gymnast’s individual scores over the course of the season. Six teams, as well as the top six all-around scorers not already qualified as a member of a team, are selected to compete at NCAA Regionals. Kivisto is currently ranked seventh in the region in the all-around competition, second among gymnasts not selected as team qualifiers.
