NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jason Vonk, the most recent addition to the Yale gymnastics team, brings more than 17 years of coaching experience to the role of assistant coach.  Vonk spent the past six years as Team Program Director and owner of Stars National Gymnastics Village in Colorado Springs, Colo. Prior to that, he coached at Colorado Aerials and Gymco in Grand Rapids, Mich.

At Stars, Vonk coached an elite gymnast onto the National Training Squad and to the U.S. Classic. This experience gave him the opportunity to coach at the National Training Center with the USA Gymnastics National Staff and the Women's National Team Coordinator, Marta Karolyi.

In addition, Vonk coached an all-around champion and vault champion at the Western National Championships. He has coached 4 TOPS National Team members and has led numerous teams to state championship titles.

"I am excited to work at one of the world's premier universities with some of the brightest student athletes," said Vonk. "We are shooting for a 15th Ivy Title!"

Head coach Barbara Tonry is pleased to welcome Vonk to the program.

"We are excited about his addition to the varsity team. His knowledge and enthusiasm will make him a welcome presence in the gym," she said.
