NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs, coming off a season-high team score of 190.275, will play host to Bridgeport, Rhode Island College and Springfield College this Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational. The competition is part of the Yale University Athletic Department's fifth-annual "Pink Zone" weekend.
Yale recently faced Springfield in the opening meet of the 2012 season. The Bulldogs beat Springfield 189.475-184.55. Springfield scored a season-high team score of 185.35 last weekend in a loss to SUNY Cortland. Last year, Yale finished second at the Bulldog Invitational, which included teams from Temple and Springfield. Yale scored a 184.35 to Springfield's 178.95.
The meet marks Yale's first meeting of the season with local rival and Division II powerhouse Bridgeport. The Purple Knights, who have been the defending ECAC Division II champions for the past three years, scored a season-high 194.625 against Towson last weekend. Yale last faced Bridgeport in 2010, when the Bulldogs fell 190.7-188.3.
Yale bested Rhode Island College last year 179.5-155.575. RIC has scored as high as a 172.15 this season.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater. Fans are asked to wear pink. Admission is free, but all donations and proceeds from raffles and the auction will benefit the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.
