NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After last weekend's competition at the Big Red Invitational was postponed due to Winter Storm Nemo, the Yale gymnastics team is ready to get back into action this weekend as Yale hosts Bridgeport, Springfield and West Chester on Saturday for the Bulldog Invitational. The Bulldogs have shown steady improvement this season, having beaten the previous weekend's score in every meet.
The Bulldogs posted a score of 191.225 in their last meet, against New Hampshire and George Washington, their highest score of the year. In fact, though it was just the fourth meet of the year, that 191.225 was higher than Yale scored in any meet last season, except for the 2012 ECAC Championship, where Yale scored a 191.45. Yale was led against GW and UNH by sophomores Joyce Li and Morgan Traina, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in a very competitive all-around field. Senior Tara Feld and freshman Brittney Sooksengdao also turned in impressive performances two weekends ago.
Yale faced both Bridgeport and Springfield in last year's Bulldog Invitational, where Yale finished second with a 190.400, ahead of Springfield's 185.625 and behind Bridgeport's 193.075. Feld finished second in that meet's all-around competition with a 38.500. The Bulldogs also beat Springfield in the 2012 season opener, posting a score of 189.475 to Springfield's 184.550.
Yale will be celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, honoring Lindsay Andsager, Feld, and Stephanie Goldstein, the Bulldog's three seniors. Saturday is also Youth Day, as the team will be signing autographs for young fans following the ceremony. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M.
