Yale Scores Another Season-High in Bulldog Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale gymnastics team continued this season's steady improvement on Saturday, scoring another season high with a 191.325 to finish second among the four teams in the Bulldog Invitational.  Bridgeport came in on top with a 194.725, West Chester finished third with a 186.000 and Springfield was fourth with a 182.050.

As they have in every meet so far this season, the Bulldogs improved on their score from the previous week.  Saturday's 191.325 was only .075 points off 2012's season high, which was set in the final meet of the season, the ECAC championship.

The gymnasts from the class of '13 put on quite a show as Yale gymnastics celebrated Senior Day.  Tara Feld tied a career high and school record with a 9.85 on vault and tied her career high on the floor with another 9.85 to finish second overall in both events.   She also finished seventh on the beam with a 9.625.  Captain Stephanie Goldstein finished one spot ahead of Feld on the beam, scoring a 9.650 to finish in sixth.  Goldstein also finished fourth in the all-around competition.  The third and final senior gymnast, Lindsay Andsager, was her usual excellent self on the bars where she was Yale's top finisher, scoring a 9.750 to finish fourth overall.

Also turning in impressive performances for the Bulldogs in front of a large home crowd were sophomores Joyce Li and Morgan Traina, who finished second and third, respectively in the all-around.  Li finished above 9.500 on every apparatus, including a 9.725 to finish third on the balance beam.  Traina tied with Li on the beam, also scoring a 9.725 and also finished fifth on the uneven bars, scoring a 9.675.

Following the meet, Goldstein said, "We're all very happy with the result… I think we're in a great place as we enter our last week of training before Ivies."

Yale hosts the Ivy Classic next Saturday, when Brown, Cornell and Penn will travel to New Haven to compete for the Ivy Championship.  The meet will start at 1:00 P.M. in the John. J. Lee Amphitheater.
