NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following their best performance of the season to date, the Yale gymnastics team will contend for the Ivy championship with Brown, Cornell and defending champion Penn this Saturday when Yale hosts the Ivy Classic.  Having improved their score steadily in every meet this season, the Bulldogs are ready to claim their first Ivy title since 2005.

In last Saturday's Bulldog Invitational, the Yale gymnasts posted a team score 191.325, their best of 2013.  As the Bulldogs were celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, it was only fitting that some of the strongest performances came from members of the class of 2013.  Senior Tara Feld tied her own school record with a 9.850 on the vault, tied her personal best on the floor with a 9.850 and scored a 9.625 on the balance beam.  For her excellent performance, she won the weekly ECAC Coaches Choice Award for her performance.  Senior captain Stephanie Goldstein finished fourth in the all-around, including a 9.650 on the beam, only .025 off her personal best.  Yale's third senior, Lindsay Andsager, was Yale's top finisher on the uneven bars, the event she specializes in, finishing fourth with a 9.750.

After Winter Storm Nemo postponed their meeting with Cornell, the Bulldogs head into the Ivy Classic with only one Ivy competition under their belts: the late-January home meet against Penn.  In that dual meet against the Quakers, Yale came up short 191.525 - 187.900 despite strong performances by Feld, who finished second in three different events and third in the all-around, and sophomore Morgan Traina, who finished second on the beam and tied with Feld for second on bars.  In last season's Ivy Classic, Yale finished fourth with a score of 190.725.  Traina was the major bright spot for Yale in that meet, winning on the beam with a score of 9.825.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 P.M. on Saturday in the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
