Sooksengdao Wins Beam Title, Yale Finishes Fifth at ECACs

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale gymnastics team finished fifth in the 2013 ECAC gymnastics championship meet with a score of 192.100, a significant improvement from last season's seventh-place finish.  Freshman Brittney Sooksengdao won Yale's first individual ECAC title since 2010, finishing first on the balance beam with a career-high score of 9.850.   Penn finished in first place to win its second consecutive ECAC championship.  Following Penn were Cornell (193.250), William & Mary (192.950), Temple (192.175), Yale and Ivy-champion Brown (191.500).

Though Sooksengdao won Yale's only individual title of the day, the Bulldogs delivered a number of excellent performances on the way to achieving their second highest team score of the season.  Senior Tara Feld was Yale's top finisher on two different apparatuses, finishing tied for third on the vault with a 9.775 and fourth on the floor exercise with a 9.800.  She also finished fifth in the all-around competition with a 38.400.  Following Feld for Yale on the vault was sophomore Morgan Traina who finished tied for 14th with a  9.625.  Junior Nicole Tay tied for 22nd with a 9.475.  

Finishing behind Feld on the floor exercise were Li, who tied for 11th with a 9.725 and Goldstein, who tied for 18th with a 9.650.

Sophomore Joyce Li finished tied for fifth on the uneven parallel bars, scoring a 9.750. Li also finished seventh in the all-around scoring a 38.175.  Senior Lindsay Andsager scored a 9.700 to tie for eighth on the bars. 

Feld was Yale's next finisher on the beam after Sooksengdao, scoring a 9.725 to tie for 11th.  Senior Stephanie Goldstein scored a 9.675 to finish tied for 16th.   Junior Ashley O'Connor and Traina tied for 22nd  on the beam with matching scores of 9.625. 

The Bulldogs will now wait to see if any gymnasts qualify individually for the NCAA regionals or USAG championships.
