Gymnasts Qualify for Post-Season Meets

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Though team competition is over for Yale gymnastics, a number of gymnasts have qualified for individual postseason competition.    Seven gymnasts have qualified for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals in Shreveport, La., and sophomore Joyce Li was named as an alternate for the NCAA regional championships in Morgantown, W.V.  If another qualified gymnast is unable to compete, Li will take her place in the competition.

Lindsay Andsager (bars), Tara Feld (all-around), Stephanie Goldstein (beam and floor), Li (all-around), Brittney Sooksengdao (vault), Nicole Tay (bars) and Morgan Traina (all-around) have all qualified for the post-season meet.  Though Yale was unable to qualify for the team competition, sending such a large number of athletes to Shreveport is a testament to the skill and depth of the Bulldogs.

"We're all really excited to make the trip to Shreveport," Goldstein commented when asked about USAGs, "We have a lot of strong competitors and will represent Yale well at the meet."  USAG Nationals will be held from Apr. 12 to 14 at Centenary College in Shreveport.

Li will find out on Apr. 2 if she will compete in the NCAA regionals, which will be hosted by the University of West Virginia on Apr. 6.  "We are all proud of Joyce's accomplishments," said Head Coach Barbara Tonry.  She added that "Joyce Li's consistency was the prime reason for her high all-around score placing her amongst the top all-around gymnasts in our NCAA Region."
