Yale Gymnasts Win ECAC Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The 2013 ECAC gymnastics season came to an end last weekend with the conference championship meet.  After the meet, various post-season awards were given out and the Yale gymnastics team earned an impressive number of honors. 

Senior and captain Stephanie Goldstein was named ECAC Scholar/Athlete of the Year for her remarkable work in the classroom and for the leadership, poise and skill she demonstrated every day in the gym. 

Four Bulldogs were named the 2013 All-ECAC team, which honors athletes placing first through sixth in each event at the ECAC championship meet.  First team honors go to those in places one through three and second team to places four through six.  Senior Tara Feld was named first team on the vault and Sooksengdao was first team on the beam.  Feld was named second team on the floor exercise and in the all-round, and sophomore Joyce Li was named second-team on the bars.

Additionally, eight Yale gymnasts were named to the ECAC All-Academic team for their performance in academics and in competition.  Lindsay Andsager, Brianna Chrisman, Feld, Goldstein, Maren Hopkins, Li, Tabitha Tay and Morgan Traina received this honor.

In addition to the athletes, assistant coach Jason Vonk, in his second season with the team, was named ECAC assistant coach of the year.
