NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Several members of the Yale gymnastics team have been honored with team awards for their performances during the 2014 season.  Senior and captain Ashley O'Connor, sophomore Camilla Opperman and junior Morgan Traina were all given special awards the the team's end of the season banquet.

O'Connor was honored with the Captain's Award for Leadership.  All year long, she was a strong leadership presence, offering guidance and experience for the young team.  During the week of Mar. 10 to Mar. 16 this season, she won the ECAC Coaches' Choice Award for her perserverance and leadership all season, having fought through a number of injuries early in her career.  She was also awarded the Yale four year Varsity Certificate.

Opperman was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award for her excellent performances this season.  She sat out her entire freshman season following Tommy John surgery on her elbow and entered this season as an unknown.  She quickly made her mark competing on the vault and floor exercise, posting Yale's highest competition scores in those two events this year.  She finished fourth on the floor excercise at the Ivy Classic, , helping Yale to a second place finish.  At the ECAC Championships, she finished in a tie for sixth place on the vault, scoring a 9.650.  She qualified in both events at the USA National Collegiate Championships and was named a Second Team All-American on the Floor Exercise.

Traina earned an Outstanding Contribution Award for her stellar season.  She won the 2014 Ivy Championship on the balance beam and was second in the all-around and fourth on the floor exercise at that meet.  In the ECAC meet, she placed third on the bars, second on the balance beam and fifth in the all-around.  She also qualified for the USA National Collegiate Championships in the all-around.  Traina was also elected captain by her teammates.
