SEATTLE, Wash.- Following the conclusion of the team final Saturday, the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships continued Sunday with the individual event finals. Six Yale gymnasts qualified for event finals with their performances in the team semifinals Friday.
On vault, rookies Rebecca Chong and Anna Jennings both qualified. Chong finished just inside the top five. Her score of 9.800 landed her in a tie for fifth place, along with Lyanda Dudley of Cornell. Jennings finished in 12th place, scoring an impressive 9.625.
On uneven bars, junior Megan Ryan was the sole qualifier. Her score of 9.825 tied her score from the qualifying rounds, securing her a fourth-place finish.
On floor exercise, Yale produced three qualifiers. Senior Anella Anderson earned the top score for the Bulldogs, scoring 9.850 to finish in ninth. Freshman Jade Buford scored 9.625 to finish in 13th. Floor specialist Kiarra Alleyne also qualified for the event final, scoring 9.150.
This marks the conclusion of arguably one of the best seasons in school history for the Yale women's gymnastics team. The 2017 team rewrote the record books and won the first ECAC Championship in school history. The team will now look forward to 2018 and hopes to continue its widespread success from 2017.
