Yale Coming Off Memorable Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Allison Bushman, who helped the Bulldogs win the ECAC Championship last winter, will serve as the captain of the 2017-18 Yale gymnastics team.
"I am humbled and honored to be elected," said Bushman, a Naperville, Illinois native. "The 2017 team won its first ECAC title, and I am very excited to see what 2018 brings. Everyone on the team showed so much growth that I cannot wait to get back into the gym to work with the coaches to continue to build the legacy of Yale Gymnastics and work toward another record-breaking season."
Bushman competed primarily on the bars last year, tying for first in meets with Brown and Penn. She received ECAC Coaches' Choice honors in February and was a member of the ECAC All-Academic team for the second straight year.
"Allison is a very dedicated and talented gymnast who has persevered through injuries to compete," said long-time Yale head coach Barbara Tonry. "During her recuperation periods, she helped coach and did anything else that needed to be done for the team's success. She will be a strong leader and expects to lead this team to a better season than last year. That will not be an easy accomplishment as the team was the ECAC champions and qualified to USA Collegiate Nationals."
Bushman will have plenty of support in guiding the Bulldogs.
"The success of 2018 will be a team effort as seniors Meg Ryan and Sloane Smith will continue to provide invaluable leadership. We also will rely on the sophomore and junior classes to build upon their competitive experience and their intensity in the gym. We have a fantastic incoming freshman class, and we are 100 percent dedicated to this team and eager for our team to build upon their competitiveness and fierce love and support for one another."
