NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference once again honored two members of the Yale gymnastics team in their weekly awards. First-year Jacey Baldovino (Gymnast of the Week) and junior Jessica Wang (Specialist of the Week) for the week ending Feb. 17.
Baldovino has been named ECAC Rookie of the Week four times in the 2018 season, making this her fifth award. She is quite the accomplished young first-year. She again raised the bar in setting her career high in the all-around. Her new mark of 39.250 is the third highest in Yale history. To complete her outstanding score Baldovino posted a vault score 9.750, uneven bars (9.800), balance beam (9.875) and a floor exercise of 9.825. Her scored helped the Bulldogs top William & Mary and finish with a team score of 194.7 second highest in school history. The first-year played a key role as the Bulldogs rallied to take down William and Mary at home 194.700-193.000.
Wang had a great weekend specializing in the bars and beam. Her beam routine garnered a 9.800 score which is a season high. Wang's uneven bars routine set a new career high for her. The routine scored a 9.9 which claimed first place in the Bulldogs last home meet of the season. She made her way into the Yale record books with that bar score. This past competition also continued a six week streak of scoring 9.8 or better on the bars. She is one to lookout for in the upcoming meets.
Look for these two as they aim to hit their events this upcoming weekend at the Ivy Classic at Brown.
