NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Following another record-breaking performance at New Hampshire Friday, the Yale gymnastics team once again had a gymnast honored by the ECAC in their weekly awards. Each week, the ECAC gives out four different honors: Gymnast of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Specialist of the Week and Coaches' Choice Honors. Yale had junior Jade Buford honored as Gymnast of the Week.
Buford received Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season after receiving an all-around season-high score (39.025). The efforts of this Texas native greatly contributed to the Bulldogs' second-highest team score this season (194.950).
Buford's consistency and dominant presence in the all-around competition helped her earn this award. Last weekend she posted a season-high in the all-around with a 39.025 and was once again Yale's top all-around scorer. This score earned her second-place against nationally-ranked New Hampshire. Buford posted a 9.725 on her first event, the uneven bars. Her score was factored in to the team bar score of 48.925. She excelled on the vault, performing a 9.700 vault, which tied her season-high. Her best event of the day was the floor exercise, where she posted a huge season-high of 9.825. Finishing up the day on the balance beam, she scored a 9.775.
Lookout for Buford in the all-around as Yale gymnastics travels to UC Davis this week to compete Friday.
