As a sophomore, Sherry Yang competed on vault, beam, and floor in almost every meet. In the last four competitions, she scored above a 9.0 on all three events. Her career highs are a 9.3 on vault at Towson, a 9.4 on beam at the ECAC Championships, and a 9.475 on floor against Penn.
Due to an injury, Yang was only able to compete on bars in her freshman year. She was a consistent part of the line-up, participating in all but one meet. She earned an ECAC Coaches' Choice Award midway through the season for her excellent barwork. Yang's best performance was at Towson, where she scored a 9.675.
Yang joined the Bulldogs from Capital Gymnastics National Training Center. As a level 10, she was a six-time State and Region VII Championships qualifier. In 2007, she placed 4th in the all-around and qualified to the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals, where she placed 14th in the all-around. She also helped her Region VII team to a 3rd place finish. Yang graduated from Winston Churchill High School.
