Yale Defeats Southern Connecticut
Feb. 7, 2004
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In their second home meet of the year, the Yale women's gymnastics team topped local rival Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon 191.375-190.850. It was Yale's first team victory of the 2004 season.
Yale Captain Jamie Green (Los Angeles, CA) and Junior Kathryn Fong (Brooklyn, NY) both tied for first on the uneven bars with scores of 9.750. Green and Fong also tied for first in balance beam with scores of 9.725. Yale's strongest event of the day was the floor exercise, where the Bulldogs took all the top five spots, with Anne McPherson (Montagnola, Switzerland) finishing first with a score of 9.825.
"We really stepped it up today," said head coach Barbara Tonry. "Almost all our girls stayed on the balance beam which gave us good momentum into the floor exercise. I am very proud of our team."
The Bulldogs' next meet will be in New Haven at Payne Whitney gym against Rutgers next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
