NEW HAVEN, Conn. - On Saturday, Jan. 31, Yale and Bridgeport will meet for the second consecutive weekend. This time, it's the Bulldogs that are hosting. This is Yale's first home meet of the season. Last weekend Yale went to Bridgeport for a meet with UNH. Yale placed third with a 184.6, while the home team took second with a 186.975.
In the past, the teams have been closely matched. Yale won both meetings last season, but the Bridgeport roster has several freshmen and most of them are able to compete all four events. Bridgeport also has an advantage in team size, with 27 gymnasts to Yale's thirteen, of whom four have not competed at all this season.
The Bulldogs are still struggling to fill their line-ups. Although the team score is based on five routines on every event, each team is allowed to put up six routines and drop one score. However, due to injuries and illnesses, Yale has only been using five gymnasts on each event, so every routine counts. Despite this setback, the Bulldogs have been improving their team score every week.
Competition starts at 1:00pm in the John J. Lee Amphitheater. To follow the action from home, click the following link for live results: http://220.127.116.11/athletics/Gymnastics/index.html
