NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Alina Liao, the ECAC Gymnast of the Year and All-Around Champion, will be representing Yale in the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The competition is hosted by the University of Alabama this year and will take place on Saturday, Apr. 4. In each of the country's regions, the six teams with top Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS), the top five all-arounders not on a qualifying team, and four event specialists were selected. Liao has qualified as an individual all-arounder in each of her four years at Yale.
The top two teams and individual all-arounders wil qualify to compete in the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Nebraska on Apr. 16-18.
This year, Liao continued her streak of competing in the all-around in every single meet of her college career. Her RQS was a 38.63, and her average score was a 38.37, the second highest in the ECAC. Aside from winning at ECACs, she is also the reigning Ivy Classic champion on beam and in the all-around.
Liao also qualified to compete in the Collegiate National Championships, hosted by SCSU on Apr. 11.
