NEW HAVEN, Conn. - This weekend, senior Alina Liao will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to compete in the NCAA North Central Regionals. She is a four-time qualifier to this competition. Last year, she finished in 11th place with a 38.675.
Liao qualified to the meet with a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 38.630, which was the third highest in the ECAC. In each region, the six teams with the highest RQS compete, as well as five all-arounders not on a qualifying team and an event specialist. The gymnasts are competing for a chance to qualify to the NCAA Nationals, hosted by the University of Nebraska April 16-18. The top two teams and two individuals not on a qualifying team will advance.
The teams in the North Central region are Alabama, Oklahoma, Missouri, Central Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maryland. Liao will be in a rotation with Central Michigan, which start the meet off with a bye. Then they will compete bars and beam, have another bye, before ending the day on floor and vault.
The meet will be held in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday, April 4. Competition starts at 6:00 p.m., CST.
