Alina Liao to Compete in NCAA Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the third consecutive year, junior Alina Liao will represent Yale at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Apr. 12.
After another solid season in which she competed all four events at every competition, Liao scored 38 points or over seven times. She leads the team in scoring on bars, beam, and floor. Known to her team as "the rock", Liao set a career high at the 2008 Ivy Classic with a 38.675, becoming Ivy champion on beam, floor, and all-around. She has been ECAC Gymnast of the Week twice this season.
Liao qualified to the competition by finishing as one of the region's top five all-arounders whose team did not qualify. Her Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 38.25 was the second highest in the ECAC and seventh in the entire North East region.
The competition, held at Penn State, will be attended by Georgia, Auburn, Denver, Brigham Young, Iowa State, and the home team. Liao will be in a rotation with the Auburn team starting on bars. Competition starts at 6pm.
