NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - Brigitte Kivisto '10 has been elected as the captain of the 2009-2010 women's gymnastics team.
A psychology major from Boca Raton, Florida, Kivisto has made a huge impact on the team in her three years at Yale. During her freshman and sophomore years she competed all-around in more than half of the competitions. This season, despite being injured, she did beam and floor almost every week and learned a new vault that she unveiled in the spring. She placed second on floor at the Ivy Classic with a 9.725. Kivisto also earned back-to-back weekly ECAC awards in Februray, for Specialist of the Week and Coach's Choice.
"I hope to be a strong, enthusiastic, and inspiring leader next year. We are all forward to increasing the number of girls on the team, and we have a very talented incoming group. Hopefully, a large team will allow for some relief from aches and pain. I think that staying healthy will give our team a huge advantage when competition season arrives, so I aim to make some of our conditioning preventative. Our team will be about three-quarters underclassmen, so I expect there will be a collaborative team spirit and am excited to lead the team to our full potential," said Kivisto.
The gymnastics team begins its competition season next January.
