NEW HAVEN, Conn. – As Yale prepares for the annual Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive this coming Thursday at Commons, one of the leaders behind the initiative -- senior forward Aleca Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) of the women's ice hockey team -- will make a pair of radio appearances. Hughes, who was recently honored with the 2012 BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award for her efforts, will be interviewed at 6:25 p.m. Eastern on "The Power Play" with Scott Laughlin on XM Radio's NHL Home Ice (XM 92/Sirius 107, http://www.siriusxm.com/nhlhomeice). She will then be interviewed by Mark Stephen on CHQR AM 770, Calgary's top news and sports-talk radio station, at 10 p.m. Eastern. Listen in live at http://www.qr77.com.
The first three Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drives at Yale have added nearly 2,500 people to the Be The Match registry and located at least six genetic matches for patients with life-threatening illnesses in need of transplants. Joining the registry involves a simple series of cheek swabs and only takes approximately 15 minutes.
