33 Saves for Leonoff
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 97 seconds into the game Saturday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena, then went on to finish off a 3-0 win over the Yale women's ice hockey team behind 21 saves from Ali Binnington. Yale sophomore goalie Jaimie Leonoff made 33 saves.
RIT (3-3-0, 0-2-0 CHA), coming off a 2-1 loss to Princeton Friday night, got on the scoreboard early with a goal by defenseman Morgan Scoyne at 1:37. The Tigers later took advantage of their first power play of the game to extend the lead to 2-0 on a goal by forward Celeste Brown.
Yale (0-2-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) got only two power plays all game, and after the second RIT penalty at 3:05 of the second the Bulldogs were unable to take advantage. The Tigers then got another power play goal, this one from forward Erin Zach, to go up 3-0 at 8:52 of the second.
The Bulldogs held RIT scoreless for the final 31:08, but were unable to get any pucks past Binnington. She made six saves in the final period to wrap up the shutout, her second of the year.
Yale opens ECAC Hockey play next weekend at Colgate and Cornell.
