Leonoff Stops 26 in Two Periods; Kennedy Scores Goal
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's ice hockey team fell to McGill in an exhibition at Ingalls Rink Saturday afternoon, 3-1. Junior goalkeeper Jaimie Leonoff made 26 saves in two periods of work, and freshman Hannah Mandl stopped 11 shots in the final period.
Yale's penalty killing unit, which ended the 2012-13 season on a 39-for-40 run, continued to excel in the first action of 2013-14. The Bulldogs killed off all four penalties and even got an unassisted short-handed goal from junior forward Lynn Kennedy at 2:19 of the first. But McGill tied the game less than six minutes later on a goal by forward Jordan McDonnell.
McGill went ahead 2-1 at 15:13 of the second on goal by forward Elizabeth Hiller. Forward Darragh Hamilton put the game out of reach with a short-handed goal at 10:36 of the third.
Yale opens the regular season Oct. 19 at BC.
