Mock Scores; Leonoff Makes 36 Saves
BOSTON – For the second straight Saturday, the Yale women's ice hockey team came up just short in a bid to earn a big road win in the Boston area. BU forward Sarah Lefort's goal at 6:08 of the third broke a 1-1 tie as the Terriers beat the Bulldogs 2-1 at Walter Brown Arena Saturday afternoon.
Yale (0-2-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) had also suffered a frustrating defeat to another Boston team, Boston College, last Saturday when the No. 2-ranked Eagles scored twice in the third period to rally for a 4-3 win.
Against BU (3-1-1, 0-0-0 Hockey East), the Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the second period as Terriers forward Maddie Elia scored on a rebound at 6:48. Less than six minutes later, however, junior forward Stephanie Mock tied the game at one on a rebound. Senior forward Paige Decker, who put the initial shot on goal, assisted on the play.
Junior goaltender Jaimie Leonoff finished with 36 saves, helping Yale kill off all three Bulldog penalties in the game. But BU killed off all six Yale power plays en route to the victory. Terrier goalie Kerrin Sperry finished with 30 saves.
Yale opens conference play next Friday at St. Lawrence.
